The Mother’s Studio - 2019
The project was an attempt to forge connections, create a space of understanding, knowing, sharing. It was intended as an open studio space, where the space was utilised to create connections/understandings by means of workshops, poetry readings, and performances. It was part exhibition and part living lab by a group of nine single mothers, brought together. Seven from India, one from Basel(Switzerland) and one from Brisbane(Australia). The display included a narrative table,of snippets of the journey of being a single mother by each participant. And artworks created by most of them despite not being artists(no formal training in art). There were workshops for kids and adults. Spoken text, open mic and feminist readings of artworks. The project concluded with a collective performance which emerged from the discussions made during the two day display/workshops and affecting us each in some form.
